Cooking With Soy Mince

Cooking With Soy Mince

Although it has become popular in meat-free dishes, soy mince has been used in a number of dishes for many, many years. Soy also offers an affordable alternative to mince, helping curries, stews and sauces go a little bit longer and helping to add protein and thickening to many different dishes.

Easy to use and lasting long on the shelf, soy mince is prepared by soaking the dried mince in boiling water and letting it sit. You can continue preparing the rest of your meal, adding the soy once it is soft.

Using Soy Mince in Savoury Dishes

There are a few ways that you could use soy mince in savoury dishes. Here are some of the simplest ways to use dried soy.

Easy bolognese

Hearty, thick and tasty, soy makes an affordable alternative to meat in a simple bolognese sauce that works well with regular pasta as well as lasagna. Add fresh or tinned tomato, minced soya, garlic powder, dried basil or origanum, tomato paste, and finely chopped onion and cook slowly until the sauce is thick.

Stuffed peppers

Stuffed peppers are easy to make. Add cooked soya mince along with finely chopped onion, tomato, spinach or any other filling you prefer. Grate cheese on the top and bake in the oven until the cheese has melted and browned slightly.

Hearty soup

Soya can also help to make soups even more hearty and full of protein, whether you are making soup from scratch or using a pre-cut mix pack. Add dried flakes to vegetable soups, bean soups, lentil soups or even meat soups to thicken and bulk up the soup.

Meat-free curry

You can enhance your favourite vegetable curry with soy to add more protein and taste. Choose your favourite curry powder and vegetables, add tinned beans and add cooked soya when the curry is close to cooked.

At Spice World, you will find whole and dried soya along with a large collection of high-quality spices. Try soy mince in your favourite savoury dishes and you will soon see why this is a cupboard must-have.
